SENT HIM SOME QUESTIONS. YES, HE SWAGS!!!!
When did you find your art, that is music?
My family has always preserved a rich background in music so I was introduced to music at the age of 4 .Everyone in my family at one point in their life played an instrument , an since majority of the men in my family played horn's , I naturally picked up the trend starting off with the clarinet. Aside from that , its stories about how I used to pick out jazz records for my grandfather at the age of like 3 or 4 , but I of course I don't remember that lol.
Inspirations, and why?
I'm inspired on the daily , but as far as major influences go , I would have to say:
1. Grover Washington Jr because I listened so much smooth jazz growing up and he was my favorite plus he played the horns so I spent way to many hours of my life listening to his music.
2. The Neptunes because as a musician I really didn't have too much respect for hip hop due to the sampling aspect which to me at one time was the worse thing you could do. Honestly , they inspired me to get into production , you could not front on the art they were putting out , they were responsible for all of my favorite songs in hip hop at that time , and I just wanted to be like them because I could tell they came form a musical background simular to me and had respect form soul/funk/jazz .
3. Grand Puba /CLipse/Kanye - I give all three of these rappers equal credit becuase they all at one point helped me find my sound as an artist/rapper . Grand Puba's 2000 record to me is like the top 5 albums of all time. His flow , subject matter , and lyrical ability to stands with todays album , alot of people sleep on that mans art. I can honestly admit to him being responsible for me finding a flow .On the Clipse , just vocabulary and honesty. These guy's purposely pick words people are not used to hearing . On Kanye , a lot of people think i'm trying to sound like him , but I think thats the dumbest comparison . The one thing I did learn from him is the humorous lines/ chorus's , and and just dialogue rap . He did a lot of that in his early mixtape era ,and thats my favorite music from him.
Other artist : J dilla , Roy Ayers , Whatnaughts, Suzi Analouge , NERD , Just Blaze , Jill Scott , DAFT PUNK ,
Who are you, think you are?
Young creative musician deeply rooted in higher education , wisdom , and the future.
Family, do you love them?
I'm fortunate to have a family and yes I do love them to the point I would sacrifice my last , even though I sometimes feel neglected , but thats human emotion shit.
Favorite song, why?
That changes about every 2 days , my current favorite song (3/31/2011) is probably "UnderDawg" by Young Jeezy , been listening to that jawn everyday this week.
Swag, what does it mean to you? That is the gold question.
Self Expression mixed with confidence... sometimes that word is also used as replacement adj for cool as in " thats cool" = "swag" ... I'm not too big on that word doe , at one point I was just using it beacause it was fun to say but yea I'm over that.
