DJ Sylo

Brady "Sylo" Ettinger is apart of a new generation of talented Deejays who have been blessed with the  opportunity to create new styles of scratching and mixing, while learning and building on the older style of Deejaying. Sylo attends Temple University, his presence is acknowledged as well as his turntable talents. He has held numerous parties around the Philadephia area, and recently opened shows for Big Sean, Kid Kudi, J. Cole. Sylo is on the list of young talent gracing the music industry. He takes pride in allowing people to be inside their "comfort zone" when they are around him, and for that matter Sylo is a stand-up kind of guy. Genuine to his craft of music and deejaying, meet Sylo!

Who is Dj Sylo, how did he get the name, and where does he come from?

I am DJ Sylo. I'm a goofy dude, I like to make people smile and feel good about themselves. Music is a great for setting the mood and getting people comfortable. I like cartoons, skateboarding, philosophy, girls, other cool stuff. I'm from Takoma Park, MD. "DMV" shit.

Everyone has and inspiration that is physical, sometimes a person of family member. Do you have, lets say, a non-tangible inspiration such as God?

Yea. The natural way of things. The way things work out. That energy that everyone can feel. Read '"The Tao of Pooh," it's all in there.

Has Deejaying become a hobbie or a passion for you, do you remember what made you want to begin sratching?

DeeJaying as a passion grew over time, friends and I used to hangout and watch this movie called "Scratch" over and over. It is a documentary about DeeJaying, real good and innovative film. My friend had some tables, too, that we used to mess around with. Later on, he ended up giving me those turntables. I started practicing everyday., I get better so fast,  learned something every session. I guess passion is when you love something and you have a hunger to get better.

You are all over Philadelphia making music and throwing parties, Temple University students seem to show major support. Do you enjoy the fan base in Philadelphia?

Yes! I love everyone that have shown me love and have fun when I DeeJay. My favorite crowd is an open-minded crowd, a crowd that would accept all types of music in an attempt to just have fun and be free of issues and drama.
Sometimes that's hard to find in Philly, but it is not that hard to find on a college campus. I'm just waiting for all the homies to turn 21!

Do you have any upcoming events or collaborations or events?

The biggest thing coming up would be my trip to London! I will be there for Fall semester and I will be documenting everything.
Stay tuned.

Advice for the upcoming Class of 2015?

Have fun. Meet a lot of people. Do not feel like you have to stick with the first friends you make because they will probably not be those who stick with you until the end. Also, go into the city as much as possible.

Would you wear ByhandNYC clothing?

Duh, who would not!
